The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), in conjunction with the Federal Highway Administration, is in the process of upgrading I-55 in Jefferson County, from the Pevely (Route  Z) interchange to U.S. 67 interchange. The purpose of this project is to address traffic and safety concerns along the corridor and account for future development and growth patterns in the region. The next phases of the project involves preliminary design of the recommended alternative, additional study of traffic patterns, safety, roadway conditions, noise analysis, and environmental documentation. The I-55 Corridor Improvements Project includes the cities of Pevely, Herculaneum, Festus, and Crystal City.
